Like many families with a rustic cottage or off-grid retreat, we quickly discovered that the biggest modern concern wasn’t the lack of Wi-Fi—it was the bathroom.
Our first solution was a traditional outhouse. We built it as well as we could, but reality set in quickly. With four daughters, we often heard, “Dad, can you drive us into town so we can use a proper bathroom?” Friends visiting for the weekend would quietly wait until they were back on the highway, opting for a service stop rather than the outhouse on site.
